And she was Golden!

I started off a shy child, folks who meet me now may not believe me. But my default setting is still set to: s-h-y.

But when I was little I remember watching Maude, there was something about her. I still was too young to understand the dynamics of gender. I was still trying to wrap my head around racism: "Okay daddy some people hate us because we have brown skin? Why daddy?"

But my dad watched Maude and laughed, and so did I. I loved her pants, her necklaces, her looks on her face but most importantly her mouth and what she said. The fact that you can tell she was a big old mushy romantic trying to make it through a world that did (does not) really like strong, smart, sexy, loving women.

Maude and Bea Arthur showed it was okay to be a real dame and have a real mouth, back bone and to love.

I thank her for it. Right on Bea, right on everyone!

Peace.
